SADAA | The Woven Pavilion

Team: Alina Sebastian, Sagarika Dias, Samrakshana Suresh

“To the rhythm of the camel’s steps, their adept fingers wove images of the surrounding environment, and their weavings invite us to a better understanding of their world. The woven motifs represented their personal journey and are a gift to our understanding of this rich past.”

- Laila Al-Hamad (Cultural Entrepreneur)

SADAA, derived from the term extend, is inspired by Al Sadu, a traditional form of weaving practiced by women in the Bedouin communities in the UAE. An ode to the architecture of the yarn, SADAA aims to bring awareness on this traditional weaving practice that requires revival according to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding by UNESCO.
